Fuel for Flow: The Importance of Good Nutrition

This morning found me clutching a coffee and negotiating with the dogs about whether we really needed to brave the February mud. ( They always win.) While I was procrastinating, I found myself thinking about a conversation I’ve had with quite a few of you lately - the link between Spinal Flow and nutrition.
Nine years ago, I went through my own health overhaul. It felt like my body was broken, and in hindsight I now see I was living in survival mode for a prolonged length of time. I was fascinated by the idea that food is medicine and began to rebalance the vitamins and minerals in my system.
And here’s the thing:
Spinal Flow allows your nervous system to relax so your mind and body can heal.
Nutrition is the fuel your body needs so that your nervous system is able to work properly.
Basically, they’re two wheels of the same bike.
• Your nervous system needs actual building blocks. Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, all the unglamorous stuff, to help your nerves fire properly and respond more easily during sessions.
• Balanced blood sugar equals a calmer body. When your energy isn’t yo‑yoing, it’s much easier to drop into that delicious parasympathetic “rest and repair” state.
• When your gut microbiome is happy, everything from mood to inflammation to nutrient absorption improves.
• A well‑fuelled body reorganises more efficiently. Instead of firefighting stress, it can actually get on with the business of healing.
Some of you have already met Laura of ‘Health Sense’ at the gong baths and other Spinal Flow get togethers. She’s the warm, grounded naturopathic practitioner who recently swapped Cambridge life for the gentler pace of Mid Suffolk. And honestly, we’re lucky to have her!
This is exactly where Laura shines. She looks at the whole picture - nervous system, gut, hormones, lifestyle - and helps you make sure your internal “ingredients list” matches what your body needs to get the most out of Spinal Flow.
If you’d like to connect with her, she’s genuinely lovely and very easy to talk to.

And now… I really should face the mud bath and take the dogs out. Roll on sunnier days! ☀️
